Multimedia Story DRAFT

For my multimedia story project, I want to document a hike with my friends and my dog. I’m planning on going in the afternoon when the weather is the nicest. To prepare in advance, I’ll make sure to have my phone charged, bring water, and think about what kinds of photos and sounds I can capture from the hike.

I think the best way to shape my story is by following the progression of the hike itself. The beginning will focus on preparation and setting out on the trail. The middle section will capture moments throughout the hike, like scenery, interactions, and challenges along the way. Finally, the ending will focus on reflection once reaching the viewpoint, and maybe also the walk back down.

I want to include a few types of media in my story, such as:

  • written reflections and captions
  • photos from the hike
  • short videos
  • audio recordings

To connect my story to course concepts, I’ll use Mayer’s Principles of Multimedia Learning to organize my media. For example, I’ll use the coherence principle by including media that is meaningful to the story and avoiding adding unnecessary clips or images. I also want to use signalling by organizing the story into clear sections with headings or transitions so viewers can easily follow the progression of the adventure. Additionally, I’ll use the contiguity principle by placing text close to related pictures and videos. Lastly, I might use the modality principle by recording voice notes to include alongside photos and video instead of writing long blocks of text.
